1 Hidden Detail In Nope Supports Jordan Peele Shared Universe Theory

One moment in Nope supports the Jordan Peele shared universe theories thanks to a subtle Us and Nope connection. Even though he has only directed a few movies, Jordan Peele has quickly become one of the most detailed and intentional directors in Hollywood. He’s focused on telling original stories, and audiences have managed to find connections between them. Nope is an original sci-fi movie by Jordan Peele about people’s obsession with spectacle. While it features Get Out‘s Daniel Kaluuya in the lead role, Nope features a tiny detail that connects Peele’s film to one of his prior horror movies.

The filmmaker connected Nope and Us in a surprising way by having the fictional restaurant Copperpot’s Cove appear in both. The restaurant is visited in Nope when O.J. (Daniel Kaluuya), Em (Keke Palmer) and Angel (Brandon Perea) seek a place to regroup after encountering the alien. Copperpot’s Cove plays a bigger role in Nope as a result, but Jordan Peele first introduced audiences to the restaurant in Us. In the 2019 movie, the Wilson family’s dining table has leftover packaging on it after the family dined at Copperpot’s Cove. Both moments ultimately don’t factor much into the ending of Nope or Us, but it is a direct connection between Us and Nope.

Jordan Peele’s Shared Universe Teases Explained

There has been speculation that Jordan Peele’s movies secretly take place in the same universe ever since Us debuted. Theories suggested the group that figured out brain transplants for Get Out also created the Tethered in Us. Jordan Peele has always maintained that there is a possibility that his movies are connected. He told Kevin McCarthy (via Twitter) during Get Out that he would “probably continue to weave in the universe in my next movie,” which became Us. There were no direct links between the movies otherwise, but the release of Nope once again sparked theories about a potential shared universe.

Nope‘s Copperpot’s Cove Easter egg directly connects the movie to Us. However, it is not known if this was meant to be a fun reference to drive fan speculation or if Peele has plans to connect the stories together later on. One would think that either the massive assembling of the Tethered across America in the ending of Us or confirming the existence of aliens in Nope‘s ending would create lasting impacts on the world. The Us and Nope connection is promising to say the least. Though the two movies do not reference each other beyond Copperpot’s Cove, the Jordan Peele shared universe still has a lot of room to grow and connect.

The True Meaning of Jordan Peele’s Copperpot’s Cove References

Copperpot’s Cove establishing the Us and Nope connection was just one of the many subtle ways a creative filmmaker like Jordan Peele can slowly unravel his shared universe. However, there is another meaning to the fictional restaurant. Copperpot’s Cove is a reference to Richard Donner’s 1985 classic The Goonies. The movie featured a character named Chester Copperpot, a dead scavenger hunter the Goonies find. It is one of many Easter eggs that Jordan Peele has included in his movies, but Nope makes it all the more important thanks to its shared universe implications.

What Jordan Peele Has Said About The Shared Universe Theory

It seems that the Us and Nope connection was a big hint of things to come, as Jordan Peel has further hinted that audiences could soon get the answers they’ve been looking for. “People are doing a lot of interesting detective work, is what’s going on… The story of that character has yet to be told, I can tell you that. Which is another frustrating way of saying, I’m glad people are paying attention,” said Peele (via The New York Times).

“I do think they will get more answers on some of these things in the future. We’re not over telling all of these stories.” Notably, the title of Jordan Peele’s next movie after Nope is yet to be revealed, but is already slated for a release date of December 25, 2024. Other than the Copperpot Cove Nope and Us connection, audiences can look forward to more reveals about Peele’s shared movie universe very soon.
