Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Reveals Gameplay With Peter Using Venom’s Abilities

A new trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has finally been revealed. In the two years since the highly-anticipated sequel’s announcement at Sony’s 2021 PlayStation Showcase, speculation has run rampant about what would be included in the next chapter of Peter and Miles’ superhero story, but developer Insomniac has now provided some more concrete details as the new trailer at 2023’s PlayStation Showcase showed more of the game’s story, major characters, and gameplay.

As had been heavily rumored beforehand, the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 trailer was revealed as part of Sony’s May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, which focused largely on PlayStation’s first-party studios and properties. Sony previously announced a Fall 2023 release window toward the end of 2022, and rumors suggested a September 2023 release was likely, but the new trailer failed to narrow it down. The new Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 footage did, however, give an extended glimpse at gameplay for both Peter and Miles, with the former demonstrating a host of new abilities thanks to a suit formed from the Venom symbiote.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Trailer Gave A Better Look At Venom and Kraven

Post-credit scenes for both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales set up the arrival of the Venom symbiote, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s announcement trailer had the villain’s face flash up momentarily toward the end. The new trailer, however, gave players a better look at what to expect from the fan-favorite Spider-Man foe and the chaos he unleashes upon New York City after Harry Osborn’s experimental treatments come to an end. As had also been widely speculated, the voiceover from the game’s first trailer is Kraven, and fans got a first proper look at the hunter in action.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Will Continue Both Peter And Miles’ Journey

Given how both Peter and Miles’ gameplay had been established in their previous titles, and how Marvel’s Spider-Man‘s reveal trailer and prequel comic showed the two heroes fighting side-by-side, many had presumed that both heroes would be playable. The new trailer confirmed that while there seems to be a heavy focus on Peter’s friendship with Harry and the symbiote threat at the game’s core, Miles and his supporting cast from Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be a part of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s story too as both heroes journeys continue. New gameplay also revealed some of the new powers on display, with both heroes seeming to have received upgrades since their previous games.

The highly praised storytelling and gameplay that made Insomniac’s previous Marvel’s Spider-Man titles so well received is on full display in the new trailer, which bodes well for the upcoming sequel, which Insomniac intends to be “the best game [it] ever made“. The new footage also truly demonstrated the power of the new-gen exclusive title with its stunning visuals, meaning that PlayStation 5 players have plenty to look forward to when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases this fall.
