Don’t be fooled into thinking the best sunglasses are reserved for summer, because they’re not. Invest in the right timeless pair and they will last you forever.
While there’s always room for the statement frame (Gucci, Le Specs and Bottega Veneta are great for this), certain trends such as cat eye sunglasses and aviators will never go out of style.

What sunglasses are in style for 2021?
Eyewear is the kind of thing you can justify spending on — bear in mind, if you buy them right, you’ll have them forever (read: Chanel or Celine cat eye frames). But, if you’re looking for a quick fix, there are some great styles on the high street come courtesy of Zara and ARKET.
In terms of trends though, expect a twist on your old classics. Curved aviator frames get a hexagonal makeover for 2021, as seen at Bottega, Saint Laurent, Tom Ford and Hedi Slimane’s Celine.
Our love affair with all things 70s is still going strong, with oversized tortoisehell frames and sepia lenses, though we’re starting to see some 80s influences with bold shades and angular shapes.
On the other side of things, if you want a bit of a departure from your classic black cat eye sunglasses, try OTT frames. Think loud prints, 3D detailing, glitter and gems. There’s no such thing as too much in this instance.
How to choose sunglasses
It’s always worth going to a specialist if you’re serious about investing in a good pair of shades, because they will be able to advise you on the best frames to suit your face shape. There is a great department at Selfridges for this, though you can of course head to opticians too.
The best thing is to make sure of the UV protection, as if they don’t protect you against UVB and UVA then they’re essentially just a fashion accessory. Look for 100% protections to protect your eyes.
