The Diplomat has overtaken The Night Agent on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 chart for TV series viewership. The political thriller sees US Ambassador to the UK Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) managing international crises while adjusting to her new Ambassador role. According to Deadline, The Diplomat has dethroned The Night Agent from its No. 1 spot on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 chart for TV show viewership. For the week of April 17 to April 23, The Diplomat garnered 57.5 million hours viewed, just barely surpassing The Night Agent‘s 57 million hours that week. By carrying a strong initial performance, it’s possible The Diplomat season 2 is right around the corner.

Why The Diplomat Overtook The Night Agent So Fast

While The Diplomat may have ousted The Night Agent from its spot at No. 1 last week, The Night Agent still boasted an impressive month-long stint as the No. 1 show on Netflix. Because of this, The Night Agent is one of Netflix’s most-watched series ever, sitting as the No. 5 series of all time as of writing. The Diplomat surpassing such a popular show on debut week is a key indicator of how popular it could continue to be.

The Diplomat owes its success to the seasoned team of creatives behind the show. Joining Russell onscreen are actors like Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, and Ato Essandoh, all of whom have a long list of impressive acting credits.
