If we could talk about the perfect embodiment of romanticism, the new Valentino spring 2020 collection showed at Paris Fashion Week would definitely be the one to make us ooh and ahh. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli confessed that their sources of inspiration were the Mexican embroidery and the photographs of Graciela Iturbide and Edward Weston. Besides, the designers also mentioned Tina Modotti and Georgia O’Keeffe. “Women that had a more personal kind of beauty, very sensual and sensitive. It’s all about organic textures but in a very simple shape with the memory of couture,” Chiuri said.
It was another fabulous collection brought by the famous Italian house with an impressive waterfall of pretty lace, ruffles and chimerical embroideries. “Fashion is a dream, and in this moment we need dreams,” Piccioli stated. And it was indeed a fantastical show, the one you could watch over and over again. Feminine with a touch of girlishness, adorable yet not too sweet, fanciful yet totally accessible, the Valentino spring 2020 collection was an overwhelming offering of strapless dresses and ones with puffed shoulders, skirts, trench coats, but also pants and blouses.
Exquisite details, floral lace motifs and hand-painted flowers, velvet appliqués, cotton lace, inset lace into paper-thin leather, metallic lace are enough reasons to consider this collection one of the most outstanding seen so far at Paris Fashion Week and not only. The color palette included mostly black, white, beige and sand, but also eye-popping brights, like neon pink, yellow and red. Flat sandals and lace espadrilles complemented those featherlike silhouettes, while a pastel-colored makeup and soft braids enhanced the feminine, romantic vibe.
